Based on a weekly column the author ran in the Telegraph called 'A Novel in a Year' it's kind of like the OU 'Start Writing Fiction' course in book form.
The book is designed to be read a chapter a week, and includes a variety of activities, beginning with simply completing the sentence 'The day after my eighth birthday my father told me...' I haven't got very far with it yet, but what I have read seems pretty good! I recommend reading it if you can.
