It was as sudden as dishwater draining away when the sink plug is pulled. One moment there was blackness - eternal, abysmal, permeating. The next moment a hand had reeled in all the stars strung on the wefts of the night's fabric and uncovered a refreshing orange-and-yellow sky. In the midst of this expanse of dull light, the sun was suspended like a brilliant pendant on the fair bosom of a young maiden. It was not completely naked yet - nature's thorax of crags, boles and vales hid it from the neck down.
The sky seemed unsure to be able to make up its mind. Now it was a mellow orange, content to spread over the world the warm glow of a new beginning. Now a fiery red, intent on burning a mark and blazing a new trail. Now a comforting yellow, slaking the starkness of its spherical mistress. Now an icy blue, rebelling as an agent of the night gone past, reminding the world that another was due soon. The air was alive, carrying with it the cacophony of birds, their shrill voices insisting on singing the songs of the future. When the heavens forge a lead, can the [demesne] be far behind? The soil recovered with the night's cool bedewed embrace and straining to turn into green, only succeeded in making itself a shade darker ecru.
The shadows played hide-and-seek with each other, lengthening and shortening into nothingness. The hills were bathed in gold. The men slept, other creatures awoke gratefully to another day's hunting and foraging. The seas were not to be outdone. Rising and falling with lunar beckoning, they had spent the night in motion, never still, always moving. The sunrays caressed the rolls and a thousand diamonds broke out under the surface, twinkling and glittering. Fishes swam, mated and proliferated. The waters became warmer, the rivers flowed faster, the vapour that hung in the atmosphere lifted like a veil and revealed a nascent panorama. The day had begun.

It seemed to me that if, at some point in the distant future, when scores of young people take up the lesson of Yes, it would be a shame if all they did was get drunk and push a couple of monks in a pond.
