Ok guys so if I want to put my ugly mug on my profile, how do I get it down to 6 KB? I'm not extremely computer literate (reasonable is my best) so please guide me step by step. Much obliged,

Karen

Hi Karen,

There are a number of ways to reduce file sizes of images.

Firstly, open the picture in your imaging software. (Paint Shop, Corel, Photoshop, Picassa etc) Picassa can be downloaded for free from - http://picasa.google.co.uk/#utm_campaign=en&utm_source=en-ha-emea-uk-google&utm_medium=ha&utm_term=picassa

Try one of these:

1 Reduce the colours from 16 million to 256
2 Make the photo black and white
3 'Crop' it down so it is smaller - maybe just shows your face and neck
4 Change the format. If it is .BMP (bitmap) then change it to .JPeG
5 A combination of the above.

Reducing the image's physical size should help and resizing it to 80x80 will definitely reduce file size.

If all else fails then please send your image as an attachment to my email address (you can get this from the Members List on the home page fo the Forum) and I will do the necessary.

Happy snapping

RG

You could also try downloading a programme such as Infranview http://www.irfanview.com/

Once it's installed open the programme and:
Select 'File' from the toolbar at the top of the page.
Click 'Open' and select the picture you want to use.
Select 'Image' from the toolbar.
Choose 'Resize/Resample' from the drop down menu
Enter the width and height you want you want the picture to be.

Once that's done just save the file and upload it :D
