Struggling Authors

Just actually had an email from a friend at work telling me a customer brought in a bar of chocolate for me lol. I take it back, library customers are lovely.

Well of course........I'm a library customer .......

Do you find that you tend to get this a lot:

Them: So, what do you do?
You: Erm...*quietly* I'm a library assistant.
Them: Ooh, a nice quiet job!
You: *snort of laughter* No.

Yes. Working in a public library is by no means a quiet job. Public libraries are no longer quiet places either, and behind the scenes there is a lot of moving of boxes and stock around.

I once worked in an academic library, which was totally different. It was indeed a nice, quiet job. Why did I leave?! It was too quiet though. It was one of the University of Oxford libraries, and it was like being in the twilight zone! Lovely people though.

Oh lookie, there goes that tumbleweed again! Where's everybody gone?!

Hedw, if your still around, how're things going in your library? Our refurbishment was FINALLY fully finished about a month ago and we've now got the most hideous impractical counter in the world (there's not enough room to actually put books on it) and 5 new RFID (self service) machines which seem to break an awful lot.

Myself and a friend are running a fathers' day event here in a couple of weeks so we're rushing to get everything ready today because she only works wednesdays and saturdays and we've only just realised just how much there is to do!

How is everyone? Everything going well? Getting much writing in?

Hi, I'm still hanging in there.
Still haven't heard anything from the publisher I sent my MS to and that was at the beginning of December.
I'm not sure if it's a good thing or not.
I'm looking into writing a new manuscript. But it's a lot of research and that's taking my time up totally.
Good thing I'm on short time at work... or is it?

Taking two weeks off soon so intend to badger publishers with my book. Have had about 3 rejections to date which is par for the course. Otherwise all ok here.
My friend has an allotment which was a nightmare to start work on but it is now taking shape and lots planted. Cheap fresh veggies this year. Asda eat your heart out

Ooh, two weeks off, nice! A friend of mine from work has an allotment - last year she had a ton of courgettes so she made courgette cake. Bleuch.

I haven't done any writing for fun for aaaaages. Mind you, I don't feel like I've don anything fun at all for ages lol. Between work and uni I'm starting to feel the strain!
