Hi my name is Nathan Crutchley and am trying to write a book on unaging teenagers who were experimented 200 years before by the government and are immortal. The main plot is that 117 deserted cause they did not want to be used as tools of destruction and now the government wants them back and sent the 4000 that did not desert after them to capture them. This leads to a big war. OK I have the story down but I need a good way to get a great eye catching beginning to "addict" people to this story. Any suggestions

Hi Nathan,

Just as a suggestion....

You could try opening in a moment of high peril for the '117' - i.e. the chase is already on and the 4000 are snapping at their heels. Then, as the story progresses, try filling in back story slowly and in small chunks. During periods of high drama try not to describe every minute detail of the trees, the car they're driving etc. etc. do this later during a moment of reprieve.

Basically, hook your reader in at the first paragraph, keep the momentum going then they'll follow you throughout the later stages when you need to fill in the blanks for them. Try to avoid 'starting at the beginning' and explaining about the experiments - let that unfold in time.

If you've got some money to spare or a Xmas wishlist, try this book > http://www.amazon.com/Most-Common-Ficti ... 627&sr=8-1 - it will help you avoid the traps and pitfalls that new writers can fall into. (It turned the opening of my book around completely!)

Thanks and good luck

RG
