Am I the only person getting annoyed by all the christmas stuff that's everywhere already?!

Don't get me wrong, I love christmas as much as the next person, but it's not even December yet and already the decorations are up in the town centre (here at least), there's christmassy ads on TV and christmas sales in the shops. Yesterday I even had the Band Aid song stuck in my head becuse everywhere's so christmassy! At this rate I'll be fed up with it all by the 25th December...I hope not though cos it'll ruin the pressies

No, you're not the only one. I'm fed up too - I started to see Christmas cards in the shops in August! I like Christmas, but I don't really want to start thinking about it until December. Can't avoid it though. I'm already being asked what my plans are for Christmas. I won't be doing anything exciting but again, I'm not quite ready to think about it. I haven't bought a present for anyone yet, but I know people who've already finished their Christmas shopping.

About two feet to my left (admittedly we're seperated by a glass wall) there is some people selling charity christmas cards. They've been here (work) since the middle of last month and they are not happy or nice people - that's what being surrounded by christmas too early does to you! Makes you grumpy and mean!

One of my colleagues has brought all her christmas presents for her two little girls, wrapped everything and stored it in the loft. Another one has had the week off, so she texted me the other night to say she's brought all her presents and wrapped them, but she'll probably unwrap and re-wrap them nearer christmas to get her 'in a christmas mood' - I just don't see the point!!!

Having said that I should probably start my christmas shopping soon... :)

Wrapping them and then rewrapping - aaaargh, I can't actually think of anything worse!!!!!

I wrap them once as quickly as possible (whilst ensuring they still look nice) and then that's it!!

TWICE!!?? Noooooooooo

Xmas comes too early - you can see the difference in the kiddies program advert breaks. It's always toys but now it's full on brainwash mode and has been for at least a month!

Too too much

I'm leaving the country very soon for a place where Christmas is very low-key and I will not be back until well into the new year. Relief!

Cor Blimey, what a bunch of Ebeneezers you lot are.

I love Chrimbo and seeing that November is such a drab, featureless month I've got nothing against spreading the cheer a bit further.

I know it's commercialism at its worse, I know that it's all about the money and not the message, but I still love it.

So, there, I've said it now.
Call me what you will, I'm a Chrimbophile and proud of it !!!

I also love Christmas, I just hate the fact that it's everywhere so early! It always means that when it arrives you're already bored of it. I did watch The Muppets Christmas Carol (love that film, I don't care if it's sad lol) the other night though to try ang get myself feeling a bit christmassy, and I'm starting my shopping on Monday!

It's December, now I can officially start to feel Christmassy! I am going to see the lights being switched on in Stony Stratford later on. They're making quite an event of it. There'll be a lantern parade, fairground rides, market stalls and many other things. I've also started my Christmas shopping!

On a slightly different subject, I have seen easter eggs on sale in one shop today (I kid you not). This is what I hate about commercialisation. The marketing campaign begins far too early.

I'm totally with you, it's OK now it's December! We've been closed at work the last couple of days as we have no phone or internet, so we've been moving stock around ready for the start of a refurbishment, and we were listening to a christmas CD and singing along to it yesterday morning (until a christian member of staff made us turn it off), and we had our christmas work do last night :) .

Heading into town with some friends for christmas shopping tomorrow - yay! I can't believe that about the easter eggs though! That's ridiculous!

Hello all
Has anyone else noticed all the easter eggs and cards in the shops already.
They have to be joking.
Talk about getting in first......Doah!
Do mums have to buy that many eggs that they need to start already?
Well...........wont be long before Christmas comes back around then.
Roll on 2009 :-(
I don't think so.

Can anyone tell me why we have Easter Eggs anyway?
Jesus died on the cross and then came back from the dead... so let's stuff our faces with chocolate eggs in celebration?
Am I the only one missing the connection here?

So, Easter was officially hijacked by the Christians many moons ago. It is named after the Pagan goddess of fertility - Eostre - (think Eostregen).

As eggs are age-old symbols of fertility this was incorporated into the christian festival along with another - the rabbit :-)

So we now have the Easter bunny delivering chocolate eggs to commemorate someone being crucified - whatever next?

BTW - Hot cross buns are also fashioned after the Pagan symbol for the cycle of life - not the crucifiction.

Oh, and last but not least...

For the Romans at least, Friday was a holy day so they would never have executed anybody on that day - oops :-)

Here endeth the lesson - it's remarkable what you can pick up when you are surrounded by books

Well we live and learn...:-)
I knew it had something to do with Christians hijacking Pagan Bank Holidays but I wasn't sure how the eggs came into it, not to mention the bunnies !!!

Let's look on the bright side - the cream eggs are back in shops!
