I am getting tired of seeing books about traumatic childhoods in the charts. How depressing is that? I hope it's a trend that dies out soon.

I also detest the way so called celebrities are getting fiction books published, think Kylie Minogue, Geri Halliwell, Katie Price, Madonna even. Would they get their books published so easily if they weren't famous?

:x

Oh, don't get me started on the Karie Price books! Absolute rubbish (and semi-autobiographical) and yet her first book went into the top 10!

Oooh I can moan about this one too!! Katie Price doesn't even write her books, she has a ghost writer to do it for her - probably cos she struggles to string a sentence together. Without a doubt she has only been published because of her fame.

I'm also finding the large number of 'celebrity' autobiographies coming out annoying. No-one cares!!

Who is Katie Price?
Is she famous?

I'm not entirely sure whether you're joking or not... I'll assume that you're serious :) . Katie Price is her real name, but she's more commonly known as Jordan (you must of heard of her). She only uses her real name when she wants people to take her seriously.

Got it now.
Yes, I was serious.
I am quite pleased that I did not know her real name.

Funny

It is just a continuation of the OK/Hello magazine culture that has sprung up around us. Nobody wants to read about 'real' people anymore - just 'fakes'.

I'm waiting for Timmy Mallet's autobiography - in fact though, I can actually see Dale Winton's book on the shelf in front of me - I mean... Why? Who? When? What?

I work in a library and we've got a very large number of these 'celebrity' autobiographies. The really sad thing is that people actually take them out! That weird bloke who won Big Brother last year, for example. What exactly can he have done that's interesting enough to write about, and what makes people want to read about it?

I agree it's debatable as to whether certain autobiographies can be classed as being 'written' by a 'celebrity' or not. If you get past that point, it is laughable that they have a book out about their life when they're still so young. What have they got to say about life? It is just another way for them to cash in on their, often, overnight fame.

I know for a fact that most of those biogs are ghostwritten. I used to know someone who was a ghostwriter (she did one for celine dion) , and yes it is very annoying, but it's also annoying how 'famous' people can suddenly become novelists. It's as if you have to be famous for something else already before you can get a book published these days... oh what a winger I am!

I know! And the saddest thing? Most of them are still badly written.
