I'm tired and in need of alcoholic refreshment.

Other than that - all good.

Ooooh, I so want alcohol but I'm too tired to go out! Have just reached the end of the first week on my journalism course and it's rather full on!

Hello all,

I've been busy working, writing, trying to keep my home clean and tidy (boring I know), oh, and spending time with my hubby - you know how it is. I'd love to be able to spend the day writing, but at the moment it doesn't pay the bills. :(

The Library where I work is currently undergoing a major refurbishment. We're still open to the public, but it's so chaotic. Just got the first week over with, only another three weeks to go!

Will try to keep in touch more.

H :)

Eastbourne library's getting a major refurb whilst still open as well. Seriously, library management is crap. At the moment 'zone 1' (the entire left side of the ground floor) is closed while they paint it, replace the carpet, ceiling tiles and lights - but they closed it 3wks ago and when I was in on Friday all they'd done was choose the paint... About a third of the stock is in storage and a large chunk of 'zone 3' is closed while they put in a new lift. How glad am I that I'm not there any more?!

Perhaps we should start a new thread on libraries, Sammi!

Milton Keynes Central Library is currently having its foyer refurbished. It's been a nightmare in terms of logistics, planning where everything can go, routes into the Library and so on. We're currently on week 2. Everything was ticking along quite nicely in that we were managing to provide a service, when disaster struck on Tuesday. A generator being used to operate a piece of machinery was pumping diesel fumes and dust all around the library, and so we had to close. It was quite an eye-opener, seeing how many people were coming to use the library, only to be turned away. It made me realise how much some people rely on the library, which is great. Thankfully, we managed to re-open yesterday. Two more weeks to go (and counting)!

Oh I feel so bad now. You working so hard and I'm just sitting here typing. Lots of happy vibes to you then.
I loved your shorthand by the way. I remember those days very well.
It has its uses trust me on that. You'll work out why. Happy days Mad Tee x

Lol, thanks Tee! Can now do word groupings and write the following in short hand:

'Some of the girls at the office will not be able to take this opportunity to go to Paris with us. I do wish they could all go. A day in Paris makes very good sense to me at this time of year.'

Somehow I can't imagine ever needing to write that sentence again, but there we go! If it's gonna help me get a job at the other end then it's worth it!

It's still quite quiet, but we've had 7 new members since I posted the comp entries yesterday afternoon. That's got to be a good thing!

I'd love to work in a library.
Or a book shop.
Ah well, I'll just make do with shift work in a steelworks then.

Well I voted... for good and bad. :) Actually that is brilliant. I had a wine party tonight and showed them SA. They think it's real cool and the're not easily impressed. 8) Obviously bigger and greater things are on the horizen for SA my friends.

Don't do it! Seriously, it's not the nice, quiet, easy job that you think - it's pretty much the total opposite (as I'm sure HedW would agree). The customers are rude and ungrateful, if they're not totally nuts that is - and you'd be surprised how many total nutters the library attracts. And don't even get me started on the librarian's (don't make the mistake of assuming that everyone who works in a library is a Librarian! Most people are mere library assistants - you need to go to library school - it's actual name - to do a degree in librarianship).

Mad tee - RG and I have been surprised at how busy things have got recently, it's taken off in a big way and we're very pleased! Glad your friends were impressed, RG's done a fab job of designing the sites.

I think you'd be surprised by how many rude nutters there are working in a German steelworks. :-)

You can't punch or walk away from library customers though!
