The self help writing books always suggest reading as a good way to learn writing and techniques etc. I have read many books but wondered if people have a favourite 'list' that could be shared?

:)

I'm just gonna cheat and give you the link for the list I have to give out to reading groups at work... http://www.eastsussex.gov.uk/libraries/ ... wnload.htm

It's not REALLY cheating 'cos most (if not all of them) are ones our reading groups have asked for or bestsellers - there's books on there like The Island, The Lovely Bones, Atonement etc. Personally I love Marian Keyes but it depends whether you mind reading chick lit! I also reccomend 'Yes Man' by Danny Wallace, it's one of my favourites and I love it!

Hi Rickon,

To steal a quote from the youwriteon site (which you really should pay a visit to if you haven't already) - www.youwriteon.co.uk

If you read good
books, when you
write, good books
will come out of
you.
Natalie Goldberg

If you want to read a couple of books with a very different narrative voice then try The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy and The Book Thief by Marcus Zuzak.

There's a list of books you should try on the Struggling Authors website > http://strugglingauthors.co.uk/bookshelffiction.aspx

Cheers and good luck

RG
